CBT focuses on changing your thoughts and behaviours in the present rather than exploring what's underneath them. My approach goes deeper. We look at where your difficulties came from and work to heal them rather than just manage them. I also work with the body and nervous system, not just the mind. That said, this does require a willingness to explore your past. If that doesn't feel right for you, CBT or third-wave approaches like ACT or CFT might be a better fit, and there's no shame in that at all.
-
That's a really fair question, and it makes sense that you'd be cautious. A lot of therapy stays at the surface which is helpful up to a point, but not always reaching what's really going on underneath. My approach is integrative and tailored to you, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, visualisation, parts work, and shame work. If previous therapy felt like going round in circles, this is designed to go somewhere different.
-
Yes. Trauma doesn't have to be big and obvious to leave a mark. Growing up feeling misunderstood, learning to keep the peace, being praised for being capable rather than for being yourself – these experiences shape us too, even if they don't feel dramatic. My approach works with all of it, not just the big stuff.
-
We will explore your story, but not in a way that feels like reliving it. We go at your pace, and much of the work doesn't require you to put everything into words. That said, if you're not open to the idea that your early life might have something to do with how you feel today, my approach probably isn't the right one for you.
-
That depends on you. Some people notice a real shift within a few months; for others it takes longer, and that's okay. We work within a framework that has a shape to it, and you're always in the driving seat.
